You can see the confusion, as they've both got "Australia" in their name, although there may be a non-coincidental reason for that, let me think about it. <br /><br />The thing about the Canadian experience of inclusion and indigenous identity is that it teaches us white folk to back away slowly. It's really not something we have business having opinions about. Which unfortunately can make it hard to be partners for justice!<br /><br />I know that that sounds platitudinous, but the Vancouver First Nations scene consists of a relatively small number of people with Status and membership in Lower Mainland bands, and a larger number of First Nations people from numerous nations across the country living in poverty. Exactly how we sort out services for the indigenous that might be based on land claims on either an undeveloped Vancouver downtown property (Ka-ching!) or ten thousand acres in northern Saskatchewan is . . .hard. <br /><br />Finding the right way to talk about it is harder.
